Bethan – The Mother
Bethan – Y Fam
She nurtures. She protects. She steadies what grows.
This is a pre-order for a unique glass art piece, crafted to order just for you. See below for details.
Bethan reflects the strength and tenderness of motherhood at the heart of Merched Cymreig. In the iconic Welsh hat and skirt, her form balances heritage and contemporary craft, glowing with the resilient care that holds a family together.
She can be displayed on a natural wood stand on a shelf, mantlepiece or in a window where the light animates her story.
This modern, abstract interpretation ensures the spirit of the past is felt here and now - in bold lines, thoughtful form, and enduring craft.
The photo shown is an example - your piece will be one of a kind, made with uniquely patterned glass, so colours and textures may vary for your Bethan.
Size: approx. 35cm x 16cm + 2cm stand
This is the Large size version of the design.
Each piece is made to order, and you’re welcome to choose the colours of the poncho and skirt in the order notes. I will then carefully select the glass textures and tones that bring those choices to life, ensuring your piece is harmonious, unique, and truly one of a kind. If you do not provide any colour preferences, I will use the colour scheme from the pictures shown. The iconic Welsh hat will be made from opaque black glass - as shown in pictures, to maintain the integrity of cultural reference and design.
Typical lead time for pre-orders is 2-4 weeks. If you have a specific date in mind, please mention it in the order notes and I’ll confirm whether it can be accommodated. For pieces needed in under 2 weeks, I recommend choosing a ready-to-ship artwork instead.
If you’re interested in a custom design, please reach out via the contact form. Lead times usually range from 2–8 weeks depending on the request.
Currently, I only ship within UK mainland. Due to UK REACH regulations on leaded glass, I’m unable to ship to Northern Ireland, the EU, or overseas destinations such as the USA, Canada, or Australia.
Materials & Care
This piece is handmade using the copper foil stained glass technique. It contains solder made from lead and tin, and lead came may be present. For safety, please wash hands after handling. This is decorative glass art intended for indoor display and is not a toy - keep out of reach of children and pets.
Art glass used in this piece may contain natural variations such as roll marks, bubbles, light texture, or uneven surfaces. These are not defects, but beautiful characteristics of handmade glass that should be celebrated.
Wires used are made from copper and tinned for durability; chains are metal, and string hangings use natural jute or satin ribbons. Stands are made from UK-sourced natural wood, typically oak or yew, as shown in the listing. The solder is finished with either black or copper patina or left silver, and protected with specialty finishing compounds to reduce oxidation and extend the life of the piece.
For dusting, use a soft, dry cloth - avoid pressure, rubbing, or household cleaners. For full guidance, visit the Glass Art Care page.
The photo shown is an example - your piece will be one of a kind, with glass whose colours and textures are never repeated, a beauty unique to handmade art.
