Glass Art Care

To keep your glass art looking beautiful and lasting for generations, here’s how to care for your piece - whether stained or fused, made with lead came or copper foil.

General Care Tips

  • Handle with care - Always support your piece with both hands, especially larger panels.
  • Avoid knocks or pressure - Even strong glass can crack or loosen with impact or stress.
  • Display securely - Hang panels with proper hooks and chain; avoid suction cups, alternatively - use provided stands or stands designed for glass display.

Cleaning Your Glass Art

Stained Glass (Lead Came or Copper Foil)

  • Dust gently with a soft cloth or natural-bristle brush.
  • Light cleaning: Use a soft cloth dampened with water or a mild, pH-neutral soap solution.
  • Avoid ammonia-based cleaners (like window sprays), which can damage patina, solder, and foil.
  • Polish sparingly: For older or patinaed pieces, use a specialty stained glass polish if desired, but test a small area first.

Fused Glass

  •  Clean with a soft cloth and mild soap and water.
  •  Avoid abrasives: No scrubbing pads or harsh cleaner - these can scratch the surface.
  •  Dry thoroughly to prevent water spots.

Storage & Transport

  • Wrap carefully: Use bubble wrap or soft cloths to cushion edges and corners.
  • Store upright: For panels, store vertically (like books) in a padded box or crate.
  • Keep dry and temperate: Avoid damp, hot, or freezing storage environments.

Copper Foil Considerations

  • Copper foil can tarnish over time - this is normal and part of the aging process.
  • If desired, you can gently polish the solder lines with a non-abrasive polish designed for stained glass.

Lead Safety Notice

Some stained glass pieces contain lead came and/or solder, which can be hazardous with prolonged exposure.

  • Do not allow children to handle leaded glass.
  • Wash hands after handling leaded pieces, especially before eating or drinking.
  • Avoid storing or displaying near food prep areas.
