Meet the Artist

Based in South Wales, Paulina is the artist behind Ynys Studio - a glass practice rooted in cysylltiad (connection), culture, and craft. Drawing from the Welsh language, local wildlife, and the ever-changing landscape, her work weaves together elements of nature, culture, and symbolism to explore themes of belonging, memory, and identity.

With a background in archaeology and conservation, and a lifelong love of languages, Paulina brings a layered, intuitive approach to her art - where each piece holds both story and spirit. Her journey with glass began during stained glass workshops with a local artist in South Wales, where she discovered a process that felt both grounding and quietly transformative - a way to shape something lasting from colour and light.

Her process begins with hand-drawn sketches, later digitised and refined to balance structure and form. After colour testing and scaling, she cuts and grinds each section of glass before assembling it using the copper foil method. Traditional glass painting techniques - rooted in medieval craftsmanship - are used to add depth and meaning. Once soldered, patinated, and polished, each piece is completed with a handmade wooden stand crafted by a UK maker, or with a means to hang in a window - allowing the full experience of light to unfold.

Ynys Studio was born from a desire to create with intention - to offer something considered, emotionally resonant, and enduring. Every piece is made with care and llawenydd (joy), in the hope that it invites others to reconnect: with place, with culture, and with something meaningful.

Paulina is a member of The Contemporary Glass Society and the British Society of Master Glass Painters, reflecting her commitment to quality, ongoing learning, and contributing to the wider field of glass art.

Orders are thoughtfully packaged using recyclable and/or recycled materials wherever possible considering the safety of glass art during shipping - a simple continuation of Ynys Studio’s respect for the craft, and for the natural world that inspires it.
